Root Wellness Center

The Root Wellness Center (RWC) is redefining how marginalized communities access healthcare by reimagining traditional carceral care solutions and creating community-rooted, community-shaped, and community-led ecosystems of care. RWC heals, builds and develops leaders and therapeutic communities by offering holistic, culturally rooted care to communities historically denied access to health resources, equipping them with tools for long-term resilience.

Reimagining Mental Health

  • We design and evaluate interdisciplinary, non-carceral, and culturally sustaining mental health and wellness interventions that prevent crisis and foster intergenerational wellness.

  • We believe connection to authentic community is central to wellbeing and a method of healing that is intrinsic to our community. So we create therapeutic communities through trauma-responsive, culturally embedded programs and events.

  • We support the health and wellness of community-based leaders and euip them to implement sustainable, healing justice practices in their own contexts.

  • Our ecowomanist approach combines evidence-based strategies with ancestral healing wisdom to create interdisciplinary, non-carceral, and culturally sustaining mental health and healing interventions rooted in community.
